The peasantry consists of the lower class of the people, yet the majority of the population within medieval society. It is the largest work-force in both agricultural farming and military duties. Peasants live in the territory of their liege-lord and pay him taxes in return for the Lord's protection and work opportunity - they are not allowed to drift away from the land or change their profession unless ordered so by their Lord - which would usually require purchasing a plot of land from their Lord or to pay him a large sum of money. Most peasants are born in their village or town and also usually marry and die there.

In addition, there are peasants who are grouped as craftspeople, people with certain talent or valuable skill which can come in handy. They are trained in their profession by their parents who had also taken the same craft in their youth, or learn the skills from other craftspeople as apprentices. Usually craftspeople received better treatment than the regular farmer, as their skills come in handy with military or administrative duties.

Peasants do not possess a lot of items, but mainly domestic furniture used daily such as kitchen tools - wooden bowls, spoons, pots and so forth in addition to their tools of trade. Most of them do not own a bed, they sleep on straws formed into mattresses. Their houses are small and dark, located close to other houses within the walls of the town or village. The windows are usually small for reasons of security.

Despite the hard work being put into their trade, peasants enjoy several holidays, both religious and non-religious festivities and activities organized by either the Lord or the Church. In total, peasants work for about 260 days a year, which may be perceived as less than some modern professions, but a peasant's work is comprised of hard labor with a long working day that can go upto 12, or even 16-hour workdays. Religion plays a significant role in a peasant's life, and it serves as a strong source of authority and law. Peasants look up to the Church to provide them with basic needs such as food and a place to lay their head at under the reasoning of Christian kindness. The Church provides peasants with the most basic knowledge, and that knowledge was a peasant's whole education.
