Hundred
A 'hundred' may have once referred to the area of land that provided 100 able-bodied men. It is also equal to 100-120 hides, a hide being the amount of land sufficient to support a household. Hundreds were a subdivision of a lord's land and they were responsible for paying taxes to the Lord's treasury.
Each month, the Lord would send a bailiff and a knight to each hundred where they would assemble with the hundred's sheriff. He was responsible for providing another two knights of said hundred who would accompany the Lord's envoy in collecting taxes.
Hundreds or any other subdivision of land that held more than 20 people held a monthly council where they would discuss issues and eventually bring them up to the ears of their Lord. Criminals were meant to be pursued tirelessly by all men of the hundred.
